Bhadra purnima

Presentation by H.H. Giriraja Swami (September 2019)
Today is Bhadra-purnima. Srimad-Bhagavatam (12.13.13) states, “If on the full moon day of the month of Bhadra one places Srimad-Bhagavatam on a golden throne and gives it as a gift, he will attain the supreme transcendental destination.” As explained in the purport, “One should place Srimad-Bhagavatam on a golden throne because it is the king of all literature. On the full-moon day of the month of Bhadra, the sun, which is compared to this king of literatures, is present in the constellation Leo and looks as if raised up on a royal throne. (According to astrology, the sun is said to be exalted in the sign of Leo). Thus one may unreservedly worship Srimad-Bhagavatam, the supreme divine scripture.”

In Krsna-lila-stava (412–416), Srila Sanatana Gosvami prays, “O Srimad-Bhagavatam, O nectar churned form the ocean of all the Vedic scriptures, O most prominent transcendental fruit of all the Vedas, O You who are enriched with the jewels of all spiritual philosophical conclusions, O you who grant spiritual vision to all the people of the world, O life-breath of the Vaisnava devotees, O Lord, You are the sun which has arisen to dispel the darkness of the Kali-yuga. You are actually Lord Krsna, who has returned among us.

“O Srimad-Bhagavatam, I offer respectful obeisances unto You. By reading You one attains transcendental bliss, for Your syllables rain pure love of God upon the reader. You are always to be served by everyone, for You are an incarnation of Lord Krsna.

“O Srimad-Bhagavatam, O my only friend, O my companion, O my teacher, O my great wealth, O my deliverer, O my good fortune, O my bliss, I offer respectful obeisances unto you.

“O Srimad-Bhagavatam, O giver of saintliness to the unsaintly, O uplifter of the very fallen, please do not ever leave me. Please become manifested upon my heart and my throat, accompanied by pure love of Krsna.”

Bhadra-purnima is also the date on which Srila Prabhupada took sannyasa. When asked, “Are you going to America?” he replied, “No, Srimad-Bhagavatam is going to America—I am going with it.”

Sri Bhadra-purnima ki jaya!
Srimad-Bhagavatam ki jaya!
Srila Prabhupada ki jaya!

2020, GBC changes, updates

Hare Krishna

A few things have happened over the last 4 months to report.

  1. The GBC Vaisnava Calendar Committee made 3 changes to the calendar:
  • That the observance of “Lalita Sasti” be removed from the calendar.
  • That the observance of the “Appearance of Radhakund” be shifted to Caitra Purnima.
  • That the observance of Bhadra Purnima be added to the calendar.
  • Details here

Those changes are fully reflected in the our email reminders and downloadable files on this website.
(you will have to link to (or download again) the ical (ics) file again to see those changes in your calendar)

2. To clear up confusion and doubt breakfast times are more clear marked in reminders, pl.
Break fast 05:56 (sunrise) – 10:13 (1/3 of daylight) LT

3) To keep up with technology we upgraded servers again at the end of December 2019.

4) We have been having some problem with devotees not receiving reminders to Yahoo email addresses. After much research and adjustments, the situation is better, but not 100% reliable. We suggest, if you are a Yahoo user to please check your SPAM folder, and if the reminders are there please “mark” it as “not spam”.
If you are receiving the reminders late, then please complain to Yahoo that “legitimate opt-in mail is being delayed”.

5) With the recent server upgrade and effort to develop our mailing system, we are looking for devotees to sponsor e-mail reminders by donating monthly on Patreon – or pledge a single donation here.

6) We finally got round to updating the website!
Please take a look and let me know what you think using the poll on the right sidebar on the website.

A small update… and an apology…

We are just in the last stages of finishing a major update to our Vaisnava Calendar e-mail reminder service.
– We completely changed our mailing software application – the previous software that we had been running since we started the service in 2005 was out of date – a more modern solution was needed, so we developed some software that specifically caters for our needs.
– At the same time we also upgraded to a new dedicated server – this server is better equipped to run the systems we use to maintain the mailing lists and send out the 250,000+ emails monthly to over 22,000 subscribers around the world.

Sadly, at the beginning of last month due to an unforeseen error we experienced a malfunctioned where the mailing software got stuck in a loop, and as a result many devotees received multiple copies of the same email.
We would like to apologise for that! – we deeply regret any inconvenience that may have caused. Hare Krishna!

New .ical and .txt files now online
We have uploaded new ICAL (.ics) & .txt files with dates up until Gaura Purnima 2021.

We would very much like to keep this service a free service. With ongoing server charges and development costs we rely on the kind donations of devotees who use and value the service.
If you have found this service useful over the years please consider supporting the project by giving a donation.

Thank you all for allowing us to serve you in some small way.
Hare Krishna!

Your aspiring servant,
